Egypt’s Orascom Telecom (OT) (Mobilink) will launch a mobile banking operation in Pakistan this month, the firm’s chairman and chief executive Naguib Sawiris told Reuters. Orascom Telecom is represented by Mobilink in Pakistan.
“We are going to announce very soon, before the end of the month, we are going to launch our first real offering on mobile banking,” Sawiris said. He added that the planned mobile banking operation in Pakistan would be the first of its kind.
Mobilink is already offering Mobile Money Order (MMO) service for money transfer. The service for cash deposit, cash withdrawal and money transfer is offered in collaboration with Pakistan Post Office.
User needs to register at any post office branch to avail the service. The service is available to all pre-paid (Jazz) and post-paid (Indigo) customers.
Mobile Money Order service is powered by Utiba’s U:Market M-Commerce platform. Bangalink, Orascom’s subsidiary in Bangladesh, also uses Utiba as the mCommerce and payment platform for its operations.
Mobilink also offers Mobilink Insurance Service for accidental death insurance in collaboration with EFU General Insurance Limited.
