The most popular and stable GNU/Linux operating system Debain has turned 15 today. In these last 15 years Debian has established itself as the most stable operating system. Most of the popular GNU/Linux distributions, like Ubuntu and Knoppix, are based on Debian.

The drive also includes Bulk Data Encryption (BDE) (an optional feature), and uses Advanced Encryption Standard (AES), to deliver data security protection.

BEIJING: China has begun an anti-monopoly investigation into US software giant Microsoft and lawsuits by local companies could follow, state media reported Wednesday.
China’s State Intellectual Property Office and some research institutions have targeted Microsoft and several other global software firms over suspected monopoly activities, the Shanghai Securities News said.
Firms will be organised to file lawsuits against the software giants after China’s debut anti-monopoly law comes into effect on August 1, unnamed sources told the newspaper.

NEW YORK (AdAge.com) — Yahoo is outsourcing search monetization to Google in a 10-year deal, the companies officially announced tonight. But advertisers see less competition and higher prices.
Of course, Yahoo describes it as a non-exclusive deal that gives it the ability to display paid search results from Google, Yahoo’s own Panama search market or other third parties, presumably Microsoft, which is the only other search player with any significant domestic business. The deal also covers contextual text ads.

Time Warner Inc’s AOL is set to expand Platform-A, its integrated ad buying platform, in Europe with an aim to further its business opportunities in the field of global display ad.
AOL (formerly America Online, Inc.), an American Internet services and media company, has a publishing network in Europe that includes owned and operated sites in 13 countries in the region.
The company has named Brendan Condon as the head of Platform-A’s International operations, based in London. Condon will report to Platform-A president Lynda Clarizio.

He said that it had been observed in many countries that the telecom sector developed ahead of the IT sector. The telecom sector provides the bandwidth, which is the backbone for the IT sector to flourish, he added. He said that software, hardware and technologies are also getting cheaper day by day. So, people are buying more and more personal computers (PCs).

LAHORE: Samsung Electronics consolidated its presence in the global colour laser printer market by releasing the world’s smallest colour laser printer.
“The newly-released personal colour laser printer CLP-315 is about 20 percent smaller than the world’s previous smallest model CLP-300. With black and high glossy edges, the CLP-315 is based on Samsung’s NO-NOISTM technology, there by reducing the printer noise to 45dBA, lower than those created by general dialogue (50dBA). The CLP-315 is capable of printing as many as 16 sheets (black and white) and 4 sheets (colour printing) per minute. Compared with its previous version CLP-300, the cutting-edge model boasts a great improvement in photo printing capability,” said Samsung Head of Marketing Shahid Khan.

SAN JOSE, Calif. Cisco announced the latest results of a multi-year market study of the global adoption of managed IT and communication services. The study, performed by Ovum and commissioned by Cisco as part of its on-going commitment to enabling service providers, confirmed that businesses are increasingly looking to managed service providers for managed metro Ethernet, managed Internet Protocol (IP) Virtual Private Networks (VPNs), managed IP voice and managed security. The report notes that the market for these managed IP-based services continues to see strong growth at a current compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 18 percent over the forecast period and is expected to deliver revenues of US $66 billion by 2012.

A growing number of mobile phone subscribers worldwide are taking online social networking to the streets, research conducted by Nielsen reveals.
The findings, released by Nielsen Mobile, a service of Nielsen show that the UK leads Europe in mobile social networking on a percentage basis — with the US boasting comparable numbers.
In the UK, approximately 810,000 mobile subscribers, or 1.7 per cent of all mobile subscribers in the country, visited social networking websites on their mobile phones in the first quarter of 2008.
