Warid Telecom (Pvt) Ltd. and Trafco Group renewed their agreement and signed another contract through which Trafco Group will utilise voice and data communication services of the GSM and Edge network of Warid Telecom.
Warid Telecom (Pvt) Ltd. is providing voice and communications services through its state of the art GSM and Edge network to Trafco since May 2006. Both Trafco and Warid have enjoyed and benefited from the partnership and has decided to strengthen the business relationship by extending the service contract for another year.

Residents of Muswell Hill, London and Whitchurch, South Glamorgan will be the first to try next generation broadband.
Exchanges in both areas are to become pilot sites where the fibre-based broadband will be tested.
Once the exchanges are upgraded home users should be able to go online at speeds in excess of 40 megabits per second (MBPS).
Up to 15,000 home and business customers in each area will get the chance to take part in the pilot.
Fast forward
The operational pilots will run fibre-optic cables to the street cabinets that connect homes and businesses to telephone exchanges.

SAN JOSE, Calif. - Struggling to climb back to profitability, Advanced Micro Devices Inc. suffered another setback Friday when the chip maker disclosed that two businesses it acquired in a pricey acquisition were underperforming.
AMD said the businesses’ values would have to be reduced by $880 million. It’s the second time AMD has had to slash the value of businesses it absorbed as part of its pricey — and controversial — acquisition of graphics chip maker ATI Technologies Inc.

International Business Machines Corp. said it agreed to buy Platform Solutions Inc. in a deal that eliminates litigation and a potential competitor for its lucrative mainframe business. IBM didn’t disclose what it is paying for Platform, a venture-capital backed, Sunnyvale, Calif., company with about 30 employees and ambitious plans to sell powerful computers that run the same software that runs on IBM’s Z-system mainframe computer, which can cost upward of $1 million.
Mainframes are used in the data centers of many of the world’s largest financial institutions and government agencies. The deal comes less than three months after European Union antitrust regulators said they would question IBM about its actions in the mainframe market.

Web regulators have voted to open up the internet’s domain name system to create hundreds of new website addresses, such as “.paris” or “.Pepsi”, in one of the biggest shake-ups in online history.
The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) approved the overhaul, which has major implications for businesses and consumers worldwide, during its annual general meeting in Paris.
“This is a historic resolution. It is going to make a big difference to the way the Internet looks and works,” ICANN Chairman Peter Dengate Thrush told a press conference.
