BIEK Results of HSC science groups announced
Karachi, Aug 22: The Board of Intermediate Education Karachi on Friday announced the results of science (pre-engineering and general) groups in the Higher Secondary School Certificate Part-II Annual Examinations-2009.
The overall performance of both groups remained abysmally low, with pass percentage of the general (computer) group at 30.59 and that of the pre-engineering group at 47.64.
Only five out of 1,723 candidates from a general group got A-1 grades, while 539 of the total 21,380 pre-engineering candidates secured the top grade.
Of 21,380 candidates (15,542 boys and 5,838 girls), who appeared in the pre-engineering exam, 539 candidates (373 boys and 167 girls) got A-1 grades; 2,169 candidates (1,473 boys and 696 girls) obtained A grades; 2,898 candidates (1,960 boys and 938 girls) obtained B grades; 3,114 candidates (2,182 boys and 923 girls) got C grades; 1,381 candidates (1,123 boys and 258 girls) got D grades while 23 candidates (22 boys and one girl) got E grades.
In the science general exams, 1,723 candidates (808 boys and 915 girls) appeared. Of them, only five candidates (one boy and four girls) secured A-1 grades; 74 candidates (17 boys and 57 girls) got A grades; 160 candidates (31 boys and 129 girls) obtained B grades; 214 candidates (69 boys and 145 girls) got C grades; 71 candidates (46 boys and 25 girls) secured D grades while two candidates (one boy and one girl) got in E grades.
Top position-holders
Abdullah Ahsun, son of Mohammad Sajid (Roll No 363396), a student Govt Degree Science College, Malir Cantonment, topped the pre-engineering exam by securing 975 (88.63 per cent) out of 1,100 marks. The second position was shared by Syed Mohammad, s/o S. Zameer Hussain Shah, (Roll No 366670) and Tahira Firdous, daughter of Mohamad Saleem, (Roll No 373862), who obtained 971 (88.27pc) marks. The second position holders were students of Army Public School and College, Malir Cantonment and BAMM PECHS Govt College for Women. Third position in the pre-engineering exam was clinched by another student of the PECHS college, Soha A. R. Maktoom, d/o Abdul Rahman Maktoom, (Roll No 373882) with 965 (87.72pc) marks.
A student of Sir Syed Govt Girls College, Sidra Qaiser, daughter of Qaiser Mahmood, (Roll No 423679), got first position in the general group exam by obtaining 920 (83.63 per cent) out of 1,100 marks. Nimra Arif, d/o Arif Hussain, (Roll No 424045), a student of D.A. Degree College for Women, Phase VIII, clinched second position by securing 913 (83pc) marks. Halima Sadia, d/o Mohammad Akram Jawed, (Roll No 423868), of BAMM PECHS Govt College for Women, secured third position with 912 (82.91pc) marks.
The top position-holders were presented gifts at a ceremony held on Friday under the aegis of the BIEK at its conference hall. It was attended, among others, by BIEK chairman Prof Anwar Ahmed Zai, controller of examinations, Prof Agha Akber Mirza, provincial director-general (Colleges) Prof Rafique Ahmed Siddiqui,
parents of position-holders and principals of their respective schools.
